Poultry farming in Uganda has experienced significant growth in recent years, driven by increased demand for eggs and chicken meat. Many Ugandans, both in rural and urban areas, have embraced poultry as a reliable source of income and food. This growth is also supported by better access to training, improved breeds, and poultry equipment.
Farmers are now shifting from traditional free-range systems to more organized and commercial poultry production. Layers like ISA Brown and broilers are commonly used due to their high productivity. With proper feeding, housing, and disease control, smallholder farmers are earning steady profits and expanding their farms.
The government, NGOs, and private companies have also played a role by offering extension services, affordable vaccines, and financial support. If this momentum continues, poultry farming will not only reduce unemployment but also strengthen food security and boost Uganda’s economy.
